At the very least it does have a Chapter Select option, and these Chapters are shorter than you would think (rewinding you back 10-15 minutes rather than 30-45). This is made worse by the fact that this is the one entry in the series to implement an Auto-Save function. To elaborate, there are several instances where the game invites you to explore, but if you go down one of the several available paths, the game suddenly jumps forward, permanently locking off these other paths which include power-ups. However, the more obtuse puzzles are really, really obtuse, and there are numerous times where the game suddenly forces you forward without your consent. It also features some of the more interesting powers, including one that allows the rewind of time with certain objects, allowing the excellent level design to work in a more intricate way, fusing story progression and level interaction like few games before. The puzzles are also more intricate than before, and yes, I had to access Lets Plays several times, but for the most part, once I saw how they were meant to be solved, I had a “Oh right – I'm an idiot” moment. The visuals are absolutely stunning for a PS3 title (I have numerous PS4 titles that look inferior), the controls are still incredibly tight and responsive, the story is very well written, the music is better than before, and the art style finally takes some more creative steps than in previous titles. Its really not a terrible game, but it definitely has a bunch of issues.ĩ0% PlayStation 3It's sad – in many ways this was the best God of War title to date. I was just bored out of my mind the whole time and I pretty much had to force myself to play the game. The only reason I'm giving this game such a high score is just because its so short, but believe me it didn't feel short. Also verrrrry occasionally the game would lose sound or lag, but it only happened a handful of times, and is definitely due to PlayStation now. This game does however have a lot of cool set pieces in it, to the point where I was actually reminded of the early uncharted games. They weren't exactly hard, but they were just tedious to work out and I just didn't want to partake in them. The other side to the gameplay in this game are puzzles which made me want to blow my brains out. The attacks I were doing at the start of the game are just as good at the end of the game, so I have really no point in using all the new abilities that are unlocked throughout the game. The combat in this game is the only thing that is mildly entertaining, but the worst part about it is that it remains largely unchanged throughout the full 6 hour game. I had no idea why kratos was trying to kill these ladies, and even at the end of the game I still only have a slight understanding. The way the story is told in a series of flashbacks would be confusing even if the story wasn't so badly told. The first hour takes place AT THE END OF THE GAME which obviously led to me being confused. Now, this could be because this is the first god of war game I've played aside from the ps4 game, but since its the earliest in the series, don't u think I wouldn't need to play the other games to at least get a basic understanding of what is going on? I was just blown away at how badly this story was told. It really just feels like an excuse for kratos to go from location to location, in fact it took me till the end of the game to figure out what was happening and why kratos wanted to kill who he was going after. This game has one of the worst stories I have ever seen in a game. An alright game, but I am reminding myself that games I found mediocre at the time are still mediocre now.ĥ0% PlayStation NowI don't know what I was expecting from this game, but it surely wasn't this. The ending is so contradicting considering Kratos still remembers and hates himself for killing his family later in the timeline anyway. Kratos is extremely boring and stuff where he says, "I have spilled enough innocent blood" feels unearned. The events of it never gets mentioned later in the series and it just feels so skippable. The story is almost like an anime filler arc. Everything Acension does, God of War 3 does better. It's such a shame because God of War 3's engine looks amazing and is fantastic here, and it pains me to see it get wasted on a forgettable game. I can't really think of anything that Acension has over other games in the series. Everything about it felt like I was going through the motions and the Uncharted like climbing didn't help it. 70% PlayStation 3For the sake of crossing off the final Greek God of War game and while the game isn't terrible, it's just forgettable and mediocre.
